Kenelm Cayley Bt JP was born in Brompton by Sawdon, Yorkshire, England.
Kenelm was a Justice of the Peace.

Kenelm was the son of George Cayley and Mary Montagu-Stuart-Wortley. He was baptised at Brompton by Sawdon, Yorkshire on 25 October 1896.[1] His birth was registered in the Scarborough district of Yorkshire in the 4th quarter of 1896.[2]

The 1901 census lists Kenelm, age 4, at Brompton by Sawdon, Yorkshire, with his birthplace as Brompton.[3]

The 1911 census lists Kenelm at Woodbridge, Suffolk, age 14, born Brompton by Sawdon, Yorkshire.[4]

He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. During World War I he served in the 3rd Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, and was taken prisoner-of-war in 1915.

On 17 September 1929 Kenelm married Frances Elizabeth Edwyna Brewis at Norton, Yorkshire.[5]

The 1939 Register lists Kenelm and his wife at Seamer, Yorkshire, with his birth date as 24 September 1896.[6]

Kenelm Cayley Bt JP is a Military Veteran.
Served in the British Army -by 1944 during the Second World War.

During the early part of World War II Kenelm was a Major in the Pioneer Corps, retiring due to ill-health.[7] He lived in Brompton by Sawdon, Yorkshire, England and was for many years a member of the Council of the North Riding of Yorkshire. Kenelm became a Justice of the Peace (J.P.)

Kenelm died on 27 December 1967. He was buried at Brompton by Sawdon, Yorkshire with his birth date given as 24 September 1896 and his death date as 27 December 1967.[8] His death was registered in Yorkshire in 1967.[9] Twin stained glass windows in his memory were dedicated in the parish church of Brompton by Sawdon in 1971.[10]

The blazon is approximately, "Argent and sable, quartered, a bend gulles charged with three mullets of the first. Crest: A lion rampant, armed."

1. Sir Digby William David Cayley, 11th Baronet (born 1944) succeeded Maj. Sir Kenelm Henry Ernest Cayley Bt, JP, his second cousin once removed (2C1R), the 11th and (as of 2007) present holder of the title. He is the great-grandson of Digby Cayley, second son of the 7th Baronet. The 12th Baronet, who will inherit the baronetcy is Thomas Theodore William Cayley b. 1997, eldest son of Sir Digby, the 11th Baronet by his second wife, Cathryn Mary Russell. (Source: Wikpedia)
