Dr Cyril Cayley was born in Simla, India in 1865 and christened there on 2 October 1865. He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, England and Pembroke College, Cambridge. In 1889 he qualified as a doctor and surgeon. He became divisional health officer in Bombay, India, and died there of cholera while working to improve sanitary conditions in army barracks on 31 July 1905.
