Henry Douglas Cayley was born in Bombay, India on 20 January 1904 and baptised there on 6 March 1904. The 1911 census shows him living in Ealing, Middlesex, England. He had a successful career as a banker, much of it with the National Bank of India. When India and Pakistan became independent he played a leading role in the negotiations on the division of assets between the two countries. From 1966 to 1972 he was a Director of National & Grindlays Bank. On 14 August 1940 he married Norah Innes Paton in Bombay. In his last years he lived in Mount Eliza, Victoria, Australia, where he died on 31 March 1991.
