Biography

Douglas Edward Cayley was born in Simla, India on 15 July 1870, and was baptised there on 17 August 1870. He was educated at Clifton College and Sandhurst. In 1890 he joined the Worcester Regiment. He was awarded medals in the Second Boer War. In the First World War he was present throughout the Gallipoli campaign; he was wounded three times; and in March 1918 he took command of the 29th Infantry Division. He retired in 1920 with the honorary rank of major-general. On 7 November 1906 he married Jessie Eyre Duff Gibson. He died in Aldershot, Hampshire on 19 December 1951.
