Richard Douglas Cayley was born at Ahmednegar on 6 October 1907. He entered the British Royal Navy in 1927 and became a submarine officer, fighting with distinction during World War 2.
Richard married Nancy Violet Coutts. The marriage was registered at Aldershot, Hampshire in the 2nd quarter of 1933.[1]
On 8 January 1943 Richard was killed in action when his submarine hit a mine. He is commemorated on a war memorial at Portsmouth, Hampshire.[2] Probate was granted on his estate on 16 July 1949, with his death date given as 8 January 1943.[3]
