Biography

Rosario Centanni was born about 1750 in Alia, Sicily. We do not know who his parents are, but we have a possible father in Filippo Centanni, born about 1725, in the right village -Alia. Filippo could also be a brother, an uncle or a cousin, so further research is necessary. However, we think is Antonino for his father's name, as Rosario named his oldest son Antonino, and the name Antonino has come down in the family..

Rosario Centanni, I born 1750 is the oldest Rosario Centanni we have found in Alia records. He may have been the first to bear the name, or just the first to have his name recorded. He is a second son and Rosario is the name of his mother's father, Rosario Miceli.

Rosario Centanni,I born 1750 is herein called Rosario Centanni I, instead of Rosario, Sr., deferring to the Roman numerals due to language and culture of Sicilia which was conquered by Rome in ancient times.

Rosario Centanni,I married before 1768 to Vincenza Miceli, born 1751 in Alia, as she is the mother of his oldest son Antonino Centanni. She is listed as the widow of Rosario Centanni on her death certificate on April 15, 1828. So this record seems to indicate that Rosario Centanni, I, was deceased in 1828. He would be almost 80 years old in 1828, and probably died in his 60s or 70s.

We do know Rosario Centanni,I had two sons:

1. Antonino Centanni, born 1768, who married Gaetana Cirrincione, and had children, and eventually, grandchildren.
2. Rosario,Centanni II, born in Alia in 1773 who married Leonardo Talamo about 1800; and who is the father of Giuseppe, born 1808; Rosario, III, born 1811; Concetta, born 1803, Lucia born , and Salvadore, born 1816 and maybe Rosalia, born about 1818. Rosario was also married to Antonina Russo at some point, who may have been the widow of Giuseppe Blanda. His first wife Leonarda Talamo passed away sometime between 1843 and 1853, and probably during 1848 or1849 when the records are not available, as she does not appear in the death indexes for 1845, 1846, 1847, 1850, 1851 or 1852.

Rosario Centanni,I may have had other children before 1820 who did not live long enough to be recorded in currently available records.

Rosario Centanni,I is also the grandfather of:

1. Rosario Centanni III, and Giuseppe Antonino Centanni, sons of Rosario II, and brothers who married the Catalano sisters in Alia about 1830.
2. Three or four others, including a sister named Congetta Centanni, a sister named Lucia Centanni and possibly a sister named Rosalia Centanni, and a brother named Salvadore Antonino Centanni who was born in 1816.

Rosario Centanni,I is not listed in the death records for Alia, which begin in 1806, so it is possible he had died by that time. More likely, he was still alive in 1828, as his wife Vincenza was listed as married instead of as widowed on her death certificate.
