Chadwick, Joseph B. - Enlisted in company H, (reorganized) Third Infantry, Sept. 1, 1864, at ,Burtchville, for 3 years, age 34. Mustered Sept. 7, 1864. Discharged at Quincy, Ill., June 6, 1865.[4]

Organized at Grand Rapids, Adrian and Pontiac, Mich., August 24 to October 12, 1864. Mustered in October 15, 1864. Left State for Decatur, Ala., October 20. Attached to District of Northern Alabama, Dept. of the Cumberland, to November, 1864. 1st Brigade, Defenses of Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad, Dept. of the Cumberland, to January, 1865. 3rd Brigade, 3rd Division, 4th Army Corps, to June, 1865. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 4th Army Corps, to August, 1865. Dept. of Texas to May, 1866.
SERVICE.--Defense of Decatur, Ala., against Hood's attack October 26-30, 1864. Duty at Decatur until November 25. Moved to Murfreesboro, Tenn., November 25-27, and duty there until January 16, 1865. Hood's attack on Murfreesboro December 5-12, 1864. Moved to Huntsville, Ala., January 16, 1865; thence to Nashville, Tenn., January 31. and to Huntsville, Ala., February 6. Expedition to Bull's Gap and operations in East Tennessee March 16-April 17. Moved to Nashville, Tenn., April 20-24, and duty there until June 15. Moved to New Orleans, La., June 15-July 5; thence to Indianola, Texas, July 6-10. March to Green Lake and duty there until September 12. March to San Antonio September 12-26. Guard and provost duty at San Antonio, Gonzales and Victoria until May, 1866. Mustered out at Victoria May 26 and discharged at Detroit, Mich., June 10, 1866.

Mrs. Arthur Bruce
Mrs. Martha L. Bruce, 86, lifelong
area resident, died Monday,
Dec. 23, in the Tuscola County
Nursing Home where she had
been a patient for eight months.
She was born Sept. 18, 1877, in
Jeddo, Mich., the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Chadwick.
She and Arthur Bruce were married
in Gaylord in June of 1906.
He died in October of 1947.
She was a member of the Deford
Methodist Church and of
Puritan Chapter OES, Kingston.
Surviving are: a stepdaughter,
Mrs. Walter Kelley of Cass City;
two stepsons, Wilburt Bruce of
Scottsdale, Ariz., and Clinton
Bruce of Oxford; seven grandchildren,
and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at
the Deford Methodist Church
Thursday, Dec. 26, with the Rev.
Alan Weeks officiating. Little's
Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Burial was in Novesta Cemetery.
