William Wendal Chadwick was born on 22 November 1820 in Falmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts, the son of Thacher and Anna (Hatch) Chadwick.[1][2]
He was baptised in the East Falmouth Congregational Church on 22 April 1828.[3]
In early life William engaged in ship and house building,[4] but for many years later he was a farmer.[5][6]
He was married twice. His first wife was |Harriet N. Hatch whom he married on 18 January 1846 in Falmouth.[7] She was the daughter of Isaiah and Lucy (Nye) Hatch born on 26 April 1825 in Falmouth. They had two children before Harriet died in Falmouth on 19 November 1864 in her 40th year.
At age 46, William married secondly to 26-year-old Hannah R. Davis on 09 August 1866 in Falmouth.[8] She was the daughter of Frederick and Lucy Davis, born in Falmouth on 12 March 1834.[9] With Hannah, he had two more children. She died in Falmouth on 27 March 1897.
He died a widower on 02 December 1903 in Hatchville, a village in Falmouth, aged 83 years and 10 days. The cause of death was said to be an injury to the spine with paralysis on 27 November. His son Willard was the informant.[6] He was buried in the East End Burial Ground on 05 December 1903.[10][6][11][5] An obituary was printed in the Falmouth Enterprise on the day of his funeral which named his four children and their spouses.[5]

A gravestone transcription was published[16] giving the following information:
Wm. W. Chadwick Born Nov 22, 1829 Died Dec 2, 1903.
However, the year of birth was transcribed in error as can be seen on the gravestone photo on his Findagrave Memorial cited above.
