Biography
Philip Challis, Lieut., of Salisbury and Amesbury, " planter," b. abt. 1617; m. abt. 1652, Mary Sargent,, dau of William; d. in A. ab. 1681 ; inv. est. presented April 22, 1691. Wid. Mary d. Sep. 27, 1716. Children: 11. Hannah, b. Sep. 20, 1675; liv. 1681. [1]
Joseph Dow had two wives and two families. He married first, in Amesbury, Massachusetts, 25 May 1687, Mary Challis. Joseph Dow’s second wife was Hannah Challis, a sister of his first wife, and thus the daughter of Lt. Philip and Mary Sargent Watson Challis. She was born in Amesbury 20 September 1675. [2]
