Walter was born in Cornelius, Oregon, on October 12, 1880, to Francis Chalmers, who was born in Scotland, and Adeline Amanda Hanley, born in Canada. Walter's parents were married on September 25, 1879.[1]Walter was tall, with blue eyes and brown hair.
In 1900, Walter was in his second year at Pacific University, a private university in Forest Grove, Oregon. Founded in 1849, Pacific U. was originally named the Tualatin Academy.[2][3]
During World War I, Charles registered for the draft at the age of 37 years. At the time, he was a mechanic, working in a garage repairing automobiles.[4]
On November30, 1905, Walter married Florence Ann Wilson. Florence was born in Kansas. The couple were married in Tigard, Oregon.[5]Florence passed away November 25, 1957.[6]
At the age of 39, Walter was paying on the mortgage of his house, working as a mechanic and had two children; named Paul and Ruth. Paul was nine years old and Ruth was six.[7]
Walter was a machinist, married to Florence with two more daughters, named Gertrude and Wilma. His oldest children, Paul and Ruth, were still living with him at home in Forest Grove, Oregon.[8]
Living in Forest Grove, Oregon, at the age of 61, Walter registered for the WWII Draft. At the time, Walter was employed by the Carnation Fuel Company. Carnation, Oregon, originally called South Forest Grove, was named after the Carnation Milk Products Company, originally named the Pacific Coast Condensed Milk Company.[9][10]
Walter passed away on November 25, 1957, in Washington County, Oregon.[11]
