Amanda Chamberlain was born on February 17, 1797, in Burlington, New York to Merrick Chamberlain and his wife, Phebe Stratton. She married John Merrill Alden on October 16, 1816, in Hanover, New York. They had seven children in 24 years. She died on January 17, 1854, in Forestville, New York, at the age of 56, and was buried in Sheridan, New York.
