Biography

Kent (historic flag)
John Chambers was born in Badlesmere, Kent, England.

John Chambers, the fourth known child of Thomas Chambers and his wife Sarah (Wraight), was christened at Badlesmere, Kent, England, on 27th June 1762.[1]

He married firstly Susanna Elvy at the neighbouring parish of Throwley on 17th January 1790.[2] John and Susanna had at least six children: Frances 1791, John Elvy 1793, Sarah 1794, Mary 1797, Thomas 1798, Susanna 1800, all of whom were christened at Badlesmere except John Elvy who was christened in the neighbouring parish of Sheldwich.

Susanna died in 1812. On 25th September 1830 in the parish of Saint Peter, Canterbury, John Chambers, a widower, married secondly Lydia Casenham, a widow. Both were listed as being resident in that parish at that time.[3]

In the 1841 census at Badlesmere John Chambers is listed as approximately 75 (actually 79) and Lydia was approximately 60. Also there was Susan (= John's youngest child Susanna) aged 40, and Charles Chambers (Susanna's son) aged 10.[4]

John died in 1843 in Badlesmere, Kent, England. He was buried at Badlesmere on 12th April 1843.[5]
