Barey and brothers attended Hobbs High School, NM, Portales High School. Barey and his brother were active in sports. Barey and Carey were walk-on Football players at Eastern New Mexico University. After graduating, Barey married Jo Beth Isler in Portales on April 22, 1979. In 1979 Barey started his coaching career in Cloudcroft NM, coaching Football, Girls Basketball, and Track. He taught Science and Physical Education. Barey left Cloudcroft at the end of that school year to join his twin brother Carey at Hagerman High School, in Hagerman NM. The twins coached football, basketball, and track for two years. In 1982 Carey departed for a coaching position in Albuquerque, NM at Eldorado High School. Barey, Jo Beth, and their two children, Cami Taryn Chambers, and Kael Landon Chambers, moved to Artesia, NM where Barey taught Science, and coached Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track for the next 18 years. During that time, Barey and Jo Beth separated in 1985 and divorced 1989. Barey remained in Artesia instead of taking coaching offers elsewhere to be close to his children. In 1995 after 10 years of being a bachelor, Barey met Caren Sue Urick on a blind date. The couple was married on July 22, 1995 in Roswell, NM. In the Spring of 2004, Roswell High School in Roswell NM, hired Barey to improve their football program which was 1-19 at the time. Barey and Caren moved to Roswell and lived there for four years. Although the Roswell High football program showed modest improvement, and had it's first playoff win in six years, Barey was asked to resign following the 2007 season, Barey took a coaching job in Rio Rancho, NM from 2007 through 2009 as an assistant football coach for the Rio Rancho Rams. In the spring of 2009 Barey retired after 31 years of coaching and teaching in New Mexico. Retirement did not last long, and the Chambers moved to Brownfield, Tx, where Barey taught Chemistry and coached football, track and golf. Because of a family illness, the family move to Olathe, Kansas, (Caren's home state), presently Barey and Caren reside in Olathe, Kansas where Barey taught science and coached Football at Shawnee Mission North High School, and at Olathe Northwest High School. Barey retired from coaching in 2017, and now teaches at Mill Creek Center, an Alternative School. Caren is teaching 2nd grade at Tomahawk Elementary in the Shawnee Mission School District.
