Biography

Q4 1859 born in Blackburn, Lancashire [1]

1861 (age 1) living in Lancaster Rawtenstall with her parents 28yo Michael and 26yo wife Martha and her siblings 6yo James, 5yo Lawrence and 3yo Sarah. 1yo Janet is listed as Jeremiah, female. Michael is working as a tin moulder and the two oldest children are in school. Martha is not working. [2]

1871 (age 11) living in Blackburn with her parents 37yo Michael and 34yo Martha and her seven siblings 17yo James, 15yo Lawrence, 13yo Sarah, 7yo Elizabeth, 5yo Mary, 3yo Dorothy and 1yo Ada. Her father is an Iron Moulder and her mother is not working. The four oldest children including Janet are working as cotton weavers. The next thre youngest (age 3-7) are students. [3]

1881 (age 21) living as a boarder along with two other young women with a young family and their 1yo. She is working as a cotton weaver. [4]

1884 (age 23) marries 31yo John Wensley in Blackburn [5]

1891 (age 30) living with her 36yo husband on Goldbey Street in Blackburn. They are both working as cotton weavers. [6]

14 Jan 1892 (age 38) arrives in New York on the "Teutonic" [7]

1892 (age 32) her son Michael is born somewhere in the US. They do not show up on the 1892 New York census (parts of this census were lost)

1895 (age 35) her son William is born in Blackburn

1896 (age 36) her husband John dies in Blackburn, leaving her a widow with two small children

18 March 1897 (age 37) dies in Blackburn, one year after her husband dies, leaving her two young children as orphans. [8] Official cause of death was "blood poisoning resulting from a miscarriage but how such a miscarriage was caused there was not sufficient evidence to show. [9]
