Zebulon, son of Joseph Chambers and Sarah Shourds, was born say 1738 at New Jersey and probably died in Burlington County, NJ, after 1810 when he was on the tax roll.
The will of Joseph CHAMBERS dated 29 Jun 1777 at Trenton, Hunterdon County, NJ, left £5 to son Zebulon Chambers.[1] He was called nephew Zebulon Chambers of Nottingham Twp, Burlington Co by the will of Robert CHAMBERS dated 13 Dec 1795 at Upper Freehold Twp, Allentown, Monmouth County, NJ. He was to have Robert's house and lot in Allentown after the widow's death and 1/2 of a tract in Windsor Twp, Middlesex Co.[2]
He was probably the one listed on the NJ county tax ratables of Nottingham Twp., Burlington County, NJ, between 1773 and 1810.
In 1780 he was listed with 1 householder, 1 cattle and no improved or unimproved acres or houses, horses, hogs, grist mills, stills, taverns, or vessels.[3]
In 1800 he was listed with 114 acres of improved and 35 acres unimproved land, 5 horses, 6 cattle, and 1 dog.[4]
He may also have been among the citizens of Trenton who declared their right to peaceably assemble and make public expression of the sentiment on public measures on 29 Jul 1795.[6] On 29 Dec 1797 Zebulon was mentioned as holding adjacent land in the will of William Nutt of Nottingham Twp, Burlington Co.[7]
Research Notes
He was too old to be the Capt. Zebulon Chambers listed on the 1793 Militia Enrollment of men between 18 and 45.[8]
