In the 1901 census Herbert (age 8) was the son of Bradley Chambers in Sutterby, Lincolnshire, England. He is also living with his mother and his maternal grandfather William Enderby.[2]
In the 1911 census Herbert (age 18), Outfitters Assistant, was the single boarder of James Ingham in Alford, Lincolnshire, England.[3]
Herbert served in the First World War as a Private in the 20th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, service number 9076.
He was killed on 20 July 1916, age 23, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Thiepval, Departement de la Somme, Picardie, France.[4]
