Immigrated to Australia in 1834 with her parents and some siblings as her Tasmanian convict brother, William, had made such a good life there.
Mahala first married in 1837 to George Mills (Tasmanian convict) who had a horse & coach business (passengers & mail) between Hobart & New Norfork) and ran the famous Brunswick Wine Vault Inn in Hobart.
She was widowed in 1849 with 4 surviving offspring. As a widow she showed some business initiative continuing the licence on the Brunswick Wine Vault and being involved in some Hobart Town land transactions.
In 1854 she married John Maddock & had a further 3 offspring and settled in Melbourne, Victoria.

Her grave stone has survived remarkably well and is in the same double plot as her son (George Peter) and daughter (Clara) and grand daughter (Minnie Aimee). Her 2nd spouse's (John Maddock) plot and that of their son (John Henry) is close by.
