Biography

George Champion was a sea captain of a merchant ship based in Bristol, England. He died at sea when his ship was wrecked off the African coast. He is probably related to the other shipping/merchant Champions of Bristol, but I have been unable to connect them. Many Bristol merchants were involved the slave trade from Africa to the New World. For more information on the Port of Bristol and the slave trade, go to http://www.discoveringbristol.org.uk/slavery/

from a biography of his son George;

George Champion, Sr. , for many years made the city of Bristol his home, and from that port followed the sea, engaging in business as a merchantman, owning his own vessels and visiting many foreign ports. He died on the coast of Africa when our subject (son George) was but four years old. [1]:

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:
