Biography

Joseph was born in 1672. He passed away in 1758. [1]

Joseph Chandler, son of blacksmith Joseph Chandler of Duxbury, Massachusetts, was also a blacksmith. He married Martha Hunt on 12 Feb 1701.[2] They resided in Duxbury at first, then removed to North Yarmouth, Maine, before February 1728/9.[3]

In 1749, his sons Zachariah, Edmund, Jonathan, and Judah, all of North Yarmouth, sold their rights to "the Real Estate of Joseph Chandler (late of North Yarmouth aforesaid Blacksmith deceas'd) that lyeth in the county of Plymouth aforesaid" to Philip Chandler of Duxbury, blacksmith (their older brother).[4]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Remove the "Passed away in 1758" from the Bio, as it conflicts with the Vital "Died" fact. Or update it to be consistent. (See next)

Consider changing his death to "Before 22 September 1745". This is the Modern/Georgian Calendar date corresponding to the legal date in British Empire records for 1745, which was Julian Calendar, "Before 3 October 1745", and add the citation for this. (wikitree states that all dates should be converted to the Modern/Georgian Calendar, if it is certain it is not already. As the October 3rd date comes from official British Empire legal documents dated before 1752, it is certain to be Julian.)

It currently shows: "Died before 19 Feb 1744 in North Yarmouth, Cumberland, Maine" This appears to be a transcription error from sources that suggest "Before 19 February 1745/46", which comes from York County, MA (now Maine) Probate Journals, when Letters of Administration were issued for Joseph Chandler of North Yarmouth. In other words, 1744 appears to be incorrect. The place he died was technically: North Yarmouth, York County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British...

But, an examination of the full Estate File (images of loose leaf pages) at York County Probate, proves Joseph died before 3 October 1745. This is the date of a letter from Philip Chandler to his Mother, where he says he has discussed his father's Probate with his brother Zechariah. This proves Joseph was dead before this date. NOTE: This was likely filed to Probate as equivalent to the eldest son renouncing his lawful right to Administer his father's Estate, in favor of his younger brother. I don't know any other reason for this letter to be in the file.

Also in this file is Widow Martha declining her own lawful right to Administer her husband's Estate, also deferring to her son Zechariah. It is dated February 15, 1745/46. This leads to Letters of Administration being issued to Zechariah on 19 February 1745/46.

Chandler-4018 and Chandler-1528 appear to represent the same person because: My review of sources leads me to conclude that these are the same person.
