Biography

Rachel P. Chandler was born in Calloway County, Kentucky in 1813 to James Chandler (from Virginia) and unknown mother (from Virginia). She married Jacob Utley on April 27, 1833. ^[1] Rachel then married, after Jacob's death, her brother-in-law, Thomas Dent after her sister Roana died. Rachel and her second husband Thomas Dent must have separated or divorced since in US Census 1880, she is living with her son William in Marshall County, KY, while Thomas relocated to Parker County, Texas with son William.

Relatives: Roana Chandler married Thomas M. Dent in Calloway, KY on April 30, 1833 with father named James Chandler. ^[2]

Birth

Rachel was born in 1812 in Kentucky as cited in many of US Census and not Virginia. This would mean her father James Chandler migrated to KY from VA before her 1812 birth year. Specific birth location in KY is difficult to determine since many counties were just being created during this time. Calloway county was not formed until 1822 when land was taken away from Hickman county. Furthermore, Marshall County was not formed until 1842 from land taken from Calloway County.
