He settled in McDonough County, Illinois, in 1834, being one of the early settlers, and engaged in agricultural and mercantile pursuits. In 1846 he was elected county judge, which office he held twelve years. He resided in Macomb, McDonough County, Illinois, being mainly engaged in raising and handling Durham cattle.
