Calvin W. Chaney married Sarah(Sally) G. Jane Holt in Pittsylvania, Virginia on December 20, 1841. The three census records of 1850-1870 would estimate Calvin was born in 1820, which coincides with birth date of December 20, 1819 in Pittsylvania. Sarah's birth year estimated as 1825 in records from 1850-1880.
Those censuses would show Calvin and Sarah had at least 8 children. The family as it appeared in census of 1860 in Pittsylvania(incorrectly spelled Chana): C W Chana M 40 Virginia Sally J Chana F 33 Virginia
Additional children were Alex about 1849, and Mary about 1856.
Calvin Chaney and family were in the Laurel Grove area of Pittsylvania in 1860. The next few years, this area would supply men to Company C of the 38th Virginia Infantry. Calvin enlisted in that unit in 1864, even though he was about 46 years old. He joined October 4, 1863, and on September 17, 1864, was released for health reasons.
In 1870 the family was living north of Dan River; Chatham, Pittsylvania.
After Calvin passed away in 1877 in Pittsylvania, wife Sarah was shown as living there in 1880. No further record found.
