Richard Jr. was the son of Richard Crignon Chapel and Grace (Douglas) Chapel. He was born in Sandisfield, Massachusetts on 8 May 1786 when the country was fewer than ten years old.[1] Richard (Crignon) Chapel had a son under five in the 1790 Federal Census. It is most likely Richard Jr.[2] On September 30, 1798, he married a widow, Mrs. Hannah (Unknown) Richmond, in Washington, Massachusetts.[3] They had at least one child. : Sarah A. (Chapel) Carpenter, b. 1809 in Floyd, New York; widowed tailoress; d. 6 Jan 1888, Salisbury, Massachusetts.[4] He died sometime after 1809, but there is no valid record of his death or burial to date.
Notes
Some Ancestry trees list his wife as Abigail (Abbie) Allyn, but as far as I can tell, that is based on the death record of George W. Chapel, whose father was given as "H. Chapel." It's possible that it was an "R." instead of an "H." Going strictly by the record, however, it's does not seem to be the right person.
Some family histories suggest that he died in 1865, but that is unlikely and unsourced.
