Biography
Thomas Chapin[1][2]was son of Thomas Chapin and his wife Sarah (Wright) Chapin.[1][2]He was born January 2, 1694[1][3][2]The eldest son in a family of eleven children.[1]
On March 19, 1719-20 he married Jerusha Jones of Sunderland.[1][2]
They moved to Belchertown, Massachusetts, which had been called Cold Spring, about 1748.[1] This is known because he was a member of the church in Belchertown when Rev. Justus Forward was ordained on February 25, 1756.[1]
Five children were born to Thomas and Jerusha
He married Thankful Billings who was born May 9, 1721. 9 children: Peletiah, Jerusha, Elijah, Perez, Calvin, Silvanus, Thomas, Uriel, Hannah. He died in 1809 at the age of 87.
- Elinor was born March 4, 1722-23.[1][4] She married Benjamin Morgan, Jr. son of Benjamin & Mary (Graves) Morgan. They had two children: Elinor and Jerusha.

- Thomas III was born May 15, 1728[1] at Belchertown, Massachusetts.[4] On Nov. 20, 1750 he married Lydia Field daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Billings Field of Sunderland. He died in 1759 at the age of 31 years. They had 1 child: Thomas.
- Luther who is not found on record, but probably the son of Thomas.[1]This person may be wrongly attributed as son of this Thomas and Jerusha (Jones) Chapin because parents are "of Newport, VT. He was born in 1754 and died Feb. 18, 1810 at the age of 56 years.
Thomas died in 1741[1]in the month of February[2]at the age of 68 years.[1]His wife, Jerusha died in 1773 at the age of 77 years.[1]or June of 1770[2]
