Biography

Martha, born 3 April 1720, was the daughter of John Chaplin and Phoebe Ladson. ^[1]

She married John Barnwell on 31 October 1737. They had children:^[2][3]

• Catherine born 3 July 1740, married 24 March 1757 Andrew DeVeaux
• Anne born 11December 1742, married William DeVeaux
• Margaret born 4 October 1745, married Jacob Waight, buried 11 October 1763

• Elizabeth born 18 January 1749/50, married Jacob DeVeaux

Martha died 24 October 1792 in her 72d year^[4] and was buried at Saint Helena Episcopal Churchyard, Beaufort, Beaufort County, South Carolina.^[5]
