Biography

Walter Chaplin was born in Warwickshire, England.

Walter was born about 1855. He is the son of Enoch Chaplin and Mary Cantrill, and his birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1855 in the Foleshill and Sowe district.^[1]

He lived with his parents and siblings in Foleshill, Warwickshire in 1861,^[2] and Haworth Yorkshire in 1871, when he was 16 and working as a Spinner. ^[3]

In 1880 Walter married Rosa Dewis, registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1880 in the Keighley district,^[4] and they had four children between 1885 and 1890. ^{[5] [6] [7]}

Rosa died in 1903, and on 19 March 1904 he married Matilda Uttley at St John's Wesleyan Chapel, Park View Road, Bradford. ^[8][9] They lived in Haworth and had a son Alfred in 1905. Walter worked as Wool Sorter. ^{[10] [11]}

Walter died on 7 March 1932 and was buried in Hall Green Baptist Chapel, Haworth, Yorkshire. ^{[12] [13] [14]}
