Henry Grafton Chapman, Jr., b. 1833 d. 1883, son of wealthy Boston abolitionist of the New York Stock Exchange Henry Grafton Chapman (1804-42) and Maria Weston Chapman (1806-85), was an editor and contributor to the Liberator, He was the father of American author and social activist John Jay Chapman, b. 1862 d. 1933, whose "Emerson and Other Essays" (1898) are much admired.[1]

He was a successful stockbroker who became president of the New York Stock Exchange in New York City in 1862.
