Biography

Pvt Giles Chapman served with the United States Army during the Mexican-American War
Service Started: June 18, 1846
Unit(s): 2nd Regiment of Indiana Volunteers
Service Ended: February 23, 1847

Giles was born in 1818. He was the son of John Chapman and Sophia Abney. He was killed in 1847. Giles was in Vanderburgh County, Indiana when he was enlisted in the 2nd Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry on 18 Jun 1846, at New Albany, Indiana, by Colonel Samuel Churchill.[1] He was posted to Captain Walkers company "K",[2] and he is listed as one of Captain Walkers men killed in action at the Battle of Buena Vista, Mexico.[3]
