Jane Chapman was born about 1805 in Vermont, United States.[1] Her birth name ("Chapman") is listed on the death record of some of her children.[2]
She married Verdis Fisher. An original record for this is not identified; an unsourced record indicates they married in 1832.[3]
In the 1850 US census, Jane Fisher (45) and Verdis Fisher (65) were living in Northfork, Jasper, Illinois, with children Mary (15), Elizabeth (15), Louisa (13), Fanny (10), Joseph (8), Sarah (6), Mary (4) and Oleita (2).[1]
The 1850 census cited incorrectly stated that she and twin daughters Mary A. and Elizabeth M. were all born in Vermont. Extensive research has shown that to be incorrect. Vardis and his family left Guilford before 1800 and never returned, as evidenced by subsequent locations of Vardis and family members. Jane was probably born in Oneida or Jefferson county, New York.
Extensive research and DNA testing indicate that Jane had a sister Mary, who married Robert Molineaux and Jeremiah Sias. Their mother was a daughter of Thomas Dobson and wife Jane Price. Thomas was born in Abergavenny, Wales and came to northern New York around 1800.
The Chapman father of Mary and Jane has not yet been correctly identified. Research, including DNA triangulation, is ongoing.
