Biography

There are a number of baptism records for a Jeremiah Chapman that might fit this timescale, but at the several censuses after his marriage to Martha he gave his birth place as Rockland and birth year about 1815. This means he was the son of Jeremiah and Elizabeth (late Rowling) Chapman who was born on 22 February 1814 and baptised at Rockland St Mary five days later.^[1]

He married Martha Stimpson at St John the Baptist, Lakenham on 15 December 1839.^[2]

They lived in a number of places in Norfolk - Rockland in 1841^[3], Claxton in 1851^[4], Ludham in 1861^[5], before settling in Freethorpe for the next thirty or so years^[6][7][8].
