Biography

Matilda Ann Chapman, daughter of Charles Chapman and his wife, Mary Ann Potter was baptised at Bradwell next the Sea in Essex on 26th March 1871. [1] Her father was an agricultural labourer and by 1881 the family was living at Tillingham, just down the road from Bradwell. [2]

Ten years later Matilda was in service in Fulham, general domestic servant to the Brown family at 13 Armadale Rd. [3] On 29 November 1896 she married at St John in Hackney Edwin Jones, son of George Jones. [4]
