Mary was born in 1824. Her parents were John Henderson Chapman and Susan Jones. In 1850, the family was living in Jackson County, Georgia.[1] The household included:

Mary married John Freeman in 1853 in Georgia.[2] In 1860, the couple and their children, John and Susan, were living in Jackson County, Georgia.[3]
By 1870, Mary was widowed and living with her children in the home of her father, J H Chapman, in Jackson County, Georgia.[4]
