1867 His father dies, leaving Joseph an orphan, aged 14. Joseph and his younger brother Richard are the major beneficiaries of the estate, to be held in trust until his 21st birthday
29 Nov 1876 police Gazette reports the theft from Sarah Favell's house in Mary St, St Peters of clothing belonging to her brother, Joseph who was lodging there at the time.
Jan 1879 Appeared in SMH: TO BUILDERS and others.-A quantity of first-class Building RUBBLE, to bo SOLD, cheap. Apply to JOSEPH CHAPPELOW, Mary-street, St. Peters.[3]
12 Jul 1882 Died, age 29. [4] Buried in an unmarked grave in St Peter's graveyard[5]
In Memorium published in the Sydney Morning Herald 5 years after his death: CHAPPELOW. — In loving remembrance of my dear brother, Joseph Chappelow, who died at the Sydney Hospital, July 12, 1882, aged 29 years and 10 months. In the midst of life we are in death. Inserted by his loving sister, Mrs. D. Loudoun, Lackey-street, St. Peters.[6]
