Biography

Irene Liesabetha Heitz, daughter of Conrad Heitz was born about 1665. Until the year 2016 this profile was titled "Irene Charitas Unknown." Charitas was believed to have been her middle given name. During the year 2016, a renewed search by Roberta Estes and her genealogical researcher associates of the 17th Century primary church and the census records of the German town of Steinwenden found information which led to the belief that Irene was the daughter of Conrad Leonhard Schlosser. {That conclusion is now discredited}.

In the year 2018 another discovery indicates that her maiden name was Heitz. Irene married Michael Müller, a widower, son of Heinzmann Müller, resident in “Schwartz Matt in the Bern area” (Switzerland), on 17 April 1684 in Steinwenden, Irene and Michael had six children in the period after marriage to about 1691. The first five children died at birth or infancy or before age 3. The last child, Johann Michael Müller II Miller-2406 survived. Irene did not die in 1692 at the time of the birth of her sixth child but lived on. But until year 2018, it was believed that after she (Irene) died, her husband Johann Michael Müller/Mueller/Miller I, a widower with one baby boy, Johann Michael Müller/Mueller/[Miller-2406], married Anna Loyosa Regina. Three years later in 1695, he (Johann Michael Müller/Mueller/Miller I) died. She (Anna Loyosa Regina) then married Johann Jacob Stutzmann. The question has arisen: Is Anna Loyosa Regina the same person as Irene Liesabetha (Heitz) Müller?

Irene Liesabetha Heitz Müller aka Anna Loyosa Regina Müller Stutzman and Jacob Stutzman had five children together. Two of her sons, the half-brothers Johann II Michael Mueller and Jacob Stutzman (Jr) emigrated to America from Rotterdam in 1727 via the Ship Adventure arriving at Philadelphia on 2 Oct 1727 (Estes 2018).

Birth

Birth:
Date: 1665-1670
Place: Steinwenden, Reinland, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

The YOB inferred from Irene's DOD and age (75 y.o.) is 1754, but Estes (2018) points out that this early date is dubious for two reasons: it would make her 30 y.o. at the time of her first marriage to Michael Miller I in 1784, and she would have been 52 at the time of the birth of her last child Jacob Stutzman (Jr) in 1706. The age at death should probably be adjusted down by 10-12 years, and the YOB would then be about 1765.

Death

"Laetare Sunday, the 27th of March 1729 died in Weilach as a result of consumption, Anna Regina, lawfully wed wife of Johann Jacob Stotzmann, farm administrator (steward) of the esteemed Herrschaft (Lord of the Manor). Aged 75 years and was buried at Callstadt (Kallstadt) with the ringing of (church bells); hymns and a funeral sermon." (Page 515 of the Kallstadt Evangelische Kirche, Bavaria, quoted by Estes 2018.)

Unknown-307353 and Heitz-171 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate (Irene Charitas (Unknown last name) was recently discovered to be Heitz by Roberta Estes and her associates from Church Book documents of the Steinwenden area of Germany from the late 17th Century. It was shown that she was the daughter of Conrad Heitz when she married Johann Michael Muller/Mueller.

Roberta Estes has recently discovered documentation which leads those of us who are interested in the real maiden name of Irene. Schlosser is the name. Roberta's essay has the details.

Charitas-1 and Unknown-307353 appear to represent the same person because: same person

Unknown-307353 and Charitas-1 are not ready to be merged because: Project manager Robert Harter agrees that Charitas is a given name and not a maiden surname as explained in the essay by Roberta Estes posted online on 29Nov2015. So instead of merging unknown into Charitas-1, the plan is to merge Charitas-1 into the unknown since the last name is still unknown.

I don't currently have access to the record, but I am pretty sure you will find the surname, Charitas, in "Floyd Mason, Michael Miller Family Record, p 53." If my memory is correct, this is also referred to as "The Big Miller Book."

In the 1600’s Germans did not normally use what we consider a “middle name.” If a person had two names, the second name would have been their given name, by which they were called. If records indicate two names in addition to the family name, the “first name” would have been a christening name and it is not unusual to find all family children of the same sex having the same christening name. Since the christening name was normally some permutation of a biblical name, Irene would not be expected in this position. In addition, Charitas is more likely to be a family name than a given name. Since there is no source listed for this profile one cannot be certain, but my suspicion is that, in entry, both names were accidentally placed on the first name line.

According to information on the profile for Unknown-307353, Charitas was her middle name. If that's correct, the final profile should be Unknown-307353.

Charitas-1 should be merged into this profile if the biography that says Charitas was her middle name, not her surname, is correct
