Alfred Charlesworth was born in Staffordshire, England.

In 1889, Alfred Charlesworth was born in Wolstanton, Staffordshire to Jason and Prudence Charlesworth (née Tunstall), their youngest child.^[1] His father worked as a joiner.^[2][3]

In adulthood, Alfred became a bricklayer,^[4] and married Mary Johnson in spring 1912.^[5] They welcomed children Phyllis and Evelyn in Wolstanton in 1914^[6] and 1915.^[7]
