Research Notes

Last Will and Testament - A copy of the probate of Benjamin Chase's last will and testament can be found on ancestry.com. The will is dated 9-May-1828, and probated 2-Sep-1828 (after his death). It lists a wife named Elizabeth, and provides that after her death it gives 1/5th equally to his "lawful heirs": 1) son William, 2) daughter Abigail, 3) daughter Mary, 4) daughter Charlotte, 5) two grandchildren Ephraim and Sarah Elizabeth.
Marriage - There appears to be some questions surrounding the marriage record to Elizabeth Tourgee. This record[6] on familysearch.org shows that for Benjamin Chase's marriage on 28-Sep-1780 in Swansea to Elizabeth Targer, that particular Benjamin was born 18-Oct-1739, and has parents of Isaac and Mary Chase. The familysearch.org profile page for that particular Benjamin has a "memories" page that shows a book excerpt (CHACE - family - Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island p1287 J H Beers and Co) that says Isaac and Mary's son Benjamin died as an infant. That same profile page for Benjamin - son of Isaac and Mary - says he died in 1757. Thus, both sources show that Benjamin - son of Isaac - died long before a 1780 marriage. So maybe the familysearch.org marriage record has incorrect data? One would have to view the original marriage image to confirm.
