Research Notes

By 1747, Little Compton along with Tiverton secured their own royal decree, were incorporated, and annexed to Newport County as a part of Rhode Island along with Bristol. Because Little Compton was once part of the Plymouth colony, all probate and land records prior to 1746 can be found in Taunton and New Bedford.

Plymouth Colony was settled in 1620 by the Pilgrims. During the next 65 years all the portion of southeastern Massachusetts and western Rhode Island was known as Plymouth Colony.

In 1682, Sakonnet was incorporated by the Plymouth Colony and renamed Little Compton.

In 1685, when the division was made of Plymouth Colony, Bristol County had the towns of Taunton, Rehoboth, Dartmouth, Swansea, Bristol, Tiverton, Little Compton, Freetown and the plantations of Cumberland, Gore, and Attleboro.

Plymouth Colony was merged into the Province of Massachusetts Bay in the charter of 1691.

Chase-5397 and Chase-1111 appear to represent the same person because: birth and marriage are the same, it looks like the death date on -5397 is actually the marriage date and put in the incorrect field

Since all of the children were born between 1751 and 1770, it would appear that their mother was Huldah, and James did not have any additional children with either his 2nd or 3rd wife.
