John was born in 1837.

John W. Chase was a Civil War Veteran.

Enlisted as a Sergeant on 28 November 1861 at the age of 25. Enlisted in Company B, 13th Infantry Regiment Maine. Discharged for promotion Company B, 13th Infantry Regiment Maine on 5 May 1863.

Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant. Mustered out on 05 May 1863. Commissioned an officer in on 05 May 1863. Commission in 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Louisiana (Corps. d'Afric) on 5 May 1863.

John Wesley Chase married Margaret C. Nolan (1842–1889). They had the following children:

  3. Charles Wilbur Chase 1871–
  4. George Emery Chase 1875–1946
