Biography

MOSES CHASE Jr. (Ens. Moses2, Aquila1) was born in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts 20 January 1687/8, and died there 17 September 1760 in his 73rd year.

He married at Amesbury, Massachusetts 12 October 1709, Elisabeth WELLS, daughter of Rev. Thomas and Mary Wells. Thomas Wells was the first pastor of the First Church of Amesbury. She was born in Amesbury, 17 December 1688 and died in Newbury, 31 May 1755, in her 67th year. They were buried in the Bridge Street Cemetery in what is now West Newbury.

Moses Jr lived on the eastern half of the Ensign Moses Chase homestead. He and his wife were admitted to the Second Church of Newbury, 23 Nov., 1731. He made his will, 24 November 1757, which was proved 6 October 1760. Therein he mentions his sons Wells, Seth, Humphrey, Eleazer, Moses, and Daniel, and his daughter Elizabeth Bailey.

"Marriage: Chase, Moses, jr., and Elisabeth Wells of Amesbury, at Amesbury, Oct. 12, 1709."
