Jean Baptiste's name was anglicized from Chasle to Shaules when he migrated south to Ontario, and then immigrated into Minnesota.
Jean Baptiste became known as John William after immigrating to the United States -- see census records.
Jean Baptiste was born on November 12 and baptized on November 15, 1833 at Vaudreuil.[1]

Translation:
On December 15th, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-three I the undersigned priest, baptized Jean Baptiste born of this same month, of the legitimate marriage of Jean Baptiste Chales, traveler, resident in this parish and Françoise Pilon; godfather Michel Poirier godmother Marguerite Hemond who declared to not know how to sign. The father absent. (Signed)
As some of the Chasle family moved south from Quebec, into Ontario, and later into the United States the name was anglicized. Though there are still members of the family in both Canada and the United States using the name Chasle, most of those in the United States today are known by the name Shaules.
