Biography

John B Chastain was enumerated at Blairsville Post Office, Subdivision 126, Union County, Georgia for the June 22, United States Census, 1870. He was noted as born 1864-1865 in Georgia and at home as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are male Raney L Chastain, female Esther Chastain, male Abner B Chastain, male Jahue L Chastain, male Andrew Y Chastain, male Lewis N Chastain, male Washington S Chastain, female Mary E Chastain, male James H Chastain and female Martha A Chastain.^[1]

John L Chastain was enumerated as son at Upper Young Cane, Union County, Georgia for the June 18, United States Census, 1880. He was noted as a farm laborer, born 1865 in Georgia and single as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are self Ren L Chastain, wife Esther C Chastain, son James H Chastain, daughter Marsha A A Chastain and daughter Amand L Chastain.^[2]

J. L. Chastine wed Nancy J. Twiggs April 27, 1887 in Monroe County, Tennessee.^[3]

John L Chastain was enumerated as head of the household at Brasstown, Cherokee County, North Carolina for the April 18, United States Census, 1910. He was noted as born 1865 in Georgia and had been married twenty-three years. He was a farmer on a general farm and an owner as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are wife Nancy J Chastain, son Hushel L Chastain, son David L Chastain, daughter Ollie E Chastain, daughter Lillie M Chastain, son George F Chastain and daughter Mertile A Chastain.^[4]

John Lee Chastain is buried at New Martins Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Murphy, Cherokee County, North Carolina.^[5]
