Name

Name: Rebecca /Chastain/[1]

Birth

Date: 1792
Place: South Carolina, USA[2]
Unsourced birth also given as 1778.

Research Notes

The birth of 1778 is too soon for her supposed parents, but the date of 1792 shown on Find-a-grave is too young for birth of her children.

David Gray notes:

I have personal knowledge of where the Chastain family cemetery is as well as the Keith, Adams and Roper original settlers of South Carolina are buried.
The majority of the burials are in Pumpkintown, at the foot of Table Rock state Park. Oolenoy Baptist Church was established before the Cherokee ceded the western portion of South Carolina. It was established by Rev. John Chastain and allied families from land granted from Chief Woolenoy. The Adams, Edens, Chastain, Keith and Roper families were early Baptist Missionaries in the area before the Rev. War.
They established several Baptist associations over the years that my kin were involved with. Humphrey Posey established the Indian mission in Hiwassee and several Adams are named after him.
I found a handwritten tree from early last century written by a Clayton that may shed light on the confusion. He had a different William Adams, with 1784 grant as the father of the Oolenoy Adams. His family had a Rebecca Adams married into Chastain family She could be called an Edens in SC? That would explain the reference that Mary Edens sister was Rebecca and her father was William Adams that I found on Jesse Adams find a grave page. Could be a bastardy situation.
I also saw a comment that Chastain and Edens had half brothers between them. No support of that found though.
