Biography

Elizabeth was born on the 11th January 1790 in Fenchurch Street, London the daughter of James Chater (~1759 - 1830) and Elizabeth (Groves) Chater (~1760 - ).

Her birth was registered at Dr Williams Library, Cripplegate a nonconformist Registry. The register stated Elizabeth, child of James Chater and Elizabeth the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Groves, was born on 11 January 1790 in City of London, London, England.[1] [2]

Elizabeth was baptised at Coverley Fields Independent Church, Mile End, Stepney. The register states: Elizabeth daughter of James and Elizabeth Chater was baptised on February 9th 1790 born 11th January 1790. She was baptised by John Cottingham the minister.[3]

Elizabeth married John Mudie Wilson (1791 - 1852) on the 17th June 1814 at St Leonard's Church, Shoreditch, London.[4]

1828 New South Wales Census Elizabeth was living in Darling Harbour, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia with her husband John and their childen Emily and Mary. They arrived there on a ship named 'Thalia'.[5]

Elizabeth was named as the wife of John now in Sydney in the Will of Hannah (Leathley) Chater. The will was written in 1833 with a codicil signed in 1838 and was proved in 1844 when her aunt Hannah Chater died.

fifty pounds to each of the nieces of my said late dear husband the daughters of his three brothers except Maria Chater the daughter of of late Mr James Chater Viz to the four other daughters of Mr James Chater Eliza the wife of Mr John Wilson now at Sydney, Australia Emily Chater spinster Whitehaven Charlotte Chater spinster Tottenham and Anne Chater Spinster Ludgate Street ...to the said Maria Chater a legacy of two hundred pounds

Elizabeth died aged 62 on the 16th May 1852, and was buried on the 17th May 1852 at St Thomas, Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia.[6][7]
