Chittenden ?

The only place that Mercy was ever referred to as Chittenden, was the error made by Stiles in the Families of Ancient Wethersfield. Sgt. John Francis, "he m. (2) Mercy [Chittenden] 16 Jan 1683, who d. 13 Oct., 1745, ae 83" [1]

Response to a query for information on Mercy Chittenden in The American Genealogist 11:60, 61 (1934). “This name is a misprint in Stiles’s Ancient Wethersfield. The wife of John Francis was Mercy Chatterton; see New Haven Gen. Mag. vo. 2. p. 392 DLJ” DLJ is Donald Lines Jacobus, expert on New Haven Genealogy.

I have an official list of marriages (from that county) that includes the Chittenden/Chatterton family.. I knew their name was correctly spelled Chittenden but hadn't gotten around to changing the spelling.. There's so many in that family and I have trees across several sites.. It's hard to remember where I've already done it..
