Biography

Victorine (Chaudanson) Perkins was aboard the RMS Titanic.

Miss Victorine Chaudanson was born at Conges in the municipality of Mayres, Ardèche on September 28, 1875, the daughter of André Chaudanson and Rose Cellier. [1][2]

She immigrated to the US in 1908. Miss Chaudanson worked as maid to Mrs Emily Ryerson. She had been a live-in servant for at least at a couple years. In 1910, she was working as a servant at the home of Arthur Ryerson in Cooperstown, Springfield, Otsego, New York.[2] [3]. In April 1912, she boarded the Titanic at Cherbourg accompanying Emily Ryerson as her lady's maid in first-class.

After the collision, Victorine had gone back to the Ryersons cabin to retrieve valuables. As she was starting her search she was horrified to hear the door lock turning shut. A steward was securing the rooms. Her screams alerted him and he let her out. Later, Mr Ryerson gave Victorine his lifebelt when he saw she had none. She was rescued in lifeboat 4. [2]

Victorine married Henry Perkins, a Rolls-Royce mechanic who had been the Ryersons' chauffeur, in June of that same year. They lived in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. Their son George Henry Perkins was born in March 1913. [2]

In 1920, she and her husband were living in Manhattan with their 6 year old son. [4]

In 1930, she and her husband were living in Manhattan with their son, age 17. [5]

Her husband died in 1948. She died in August 1962 at the age of 86. She was buried at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA.[6]
