Biography

John was born in 1871.

In 1880 he was 9 and living with his parents and siblings. [1]

John Chavis and his first wife, Martha (or Sahra?), had 3 children all born in Tennessee.

John moved to Indiana around 1900 where he appears in the 1900 census for Marion Township living with his mother, siblings, and kids. John was widowed before the 1900 census was conducted. [2]

He married Lucy Glassburn in 1901. [3]

John was a railroad engineer; in 1910 he was a night watchman. [4]

In 1930 they were living in Indiana. [5]

In 1940 John and Lucy were living in Indiana. [6]

John is buried at Forest Hill Cemetary in Greencastle, Indiana. [7]

  • Confused about the two names Martha and Sahra associated with him on FamilySearch. Are they the same person? Two separate wives?
