Columbia Francis Cheek was born on September 10, 1848, in Franklin County, Georgia, to Martha Ann Bruce, age 24, and Samuel Perryman Cheek, age 30. She married Hiram Nixon Rainey on November 22, 1863, in Jackson, Georgia. Columbia was 15. Hiram was 18. The marriage did not last long. She never remarried.
In the 1860 census Columbia and her brother JoBerry are transcribed as being named Moore. They are listed under their sister, Susan Moore. The census taker used ditto marks for them instead of list them as Cheeks.
In the 1900 census she is living alone near her brother Joberry, in Dunwoody GA. In 1906 she was appointed Postmaster in Dunwoody, GA. In the 1910 and 1920 censuses, she is again living alone near her brother Joberry, in Shallowford, GA. Her occupation is Postmistress.
Sometime before 1930 she moved from Georgia to live with her brother, Robert Bruce Cheek, in Mangum, OK. She died on December 14, 1933, in Mangum, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery.
