Biography

Thomas was born 1869 in Noble Township, Defiance County, Ohio.[1][2][3] The family lived in Nobel through the census of 1880 census[4][5] and then migrated to Nebraska, found in Elm Creek, Buffalo, Nebraska for the state census in 1885.[6] He first married Lilian Beyers there June 30, 1893.[7] During 1900 they, with their 5 year old daughter, Mildred are found living in Wood River Precinct, Sumner village of Dawson County.[8] They are still in the same location for the next census.[9] Lilian died later that year (1910) and in 1914 he married Margaret Ellen Tyler.[10]

He and Margaret continued to live in the village of Sumner, Woodriver, found there with 4 year old son Richard H during the 1920 census.[11] They only had the one son and took in two female roomers, shown in the 1930 census.[12] By 1940, Richard had grown and they took in another lodger.[13] On october 16 of that year, son Richard registered for the WWII Draft and we learn that blue eyes were persistant in the Cheney line.[14]

Thomas Herbert Cheney died in Sumner in 1947 and is buried in the family plot at Kearney Cemetery, Kearney, Buffalo, Nebraska.[15]
