ARTHUR, Jr.(3) OF BALTIMORE 1740-1803
Arthur was the first child of Arthur and Saphira Hooker Chenoweth. His birth was recorded by his father in the records of St. Thomas Parish where Arthur, Sr. was a vestryman. In the Chenoweth histories, about 1858, Arthur married in Baltimore County, Ann Beasman. The marriage is factual, but the line was misplaced by Cora Hiatt as Richard(2)'s son. In fact this Arthur is Arthur, Jr. A detailed account of this correction is contained on the site background page. Land transactions between Arthur and Arthur, Jr. clearly indicate that his wife was Ann. Arthur and Ann lived in the Soldiers Delight Hundred, a location that is logically associated with the family of Arthur(2). Arthur Jr. was not mentioned in his father's will that gifted land to many of his siblings. This omission along with that of his brother John appears to stem from the fact that in 1770, Arthur, Jr. and his brother John both received land from their father, Arthur's parcel consisting of 13 acres. Arthur, Jr. served in the Revolutionary War with his brother John in the Maryland line of Rawling's Regiment. They were both captured at Fort Washington when it was surrendered, but soon exchanged back to their regiment. When he was discharged on Jul 1, 1779, Arthur held the rank of Corporal.
Ann's parents were William Beasman and Ruth Hamilton. Ann's niece, Sarah Beasman, would marry John Murray, Jr. and have two daughters that would marry sons of Arthur's son, William. Arthur and Ann had nine known children, all born in Baltimore Co., Maryland. This listing is known from a family bible (published 1792) that was passed down from Richard Beasman to his son Benjamin Thomas. The bible information of both Arthur, Jr. and Richard Beasman were sent to Cora Hiatt by Louisa Bell Chenoweth of Illinois and included in her book, albeit in the wrong place.
Many of the children of Arthur, Jr. and Ann would unite with other close families of Baltimore: The Baxters, Stansburys, Belts, Hokes, and Craigs. Sarah married Samuel Baxter and went to Ohio. It is believed that son Arthur went there as well. William married Sarah Baxter, a sister to Samuel, and moved to Hampstead, MD. [This was the ancestor of Cora Hiatt, also misplaced under the line of RICHARD(2)]. The son, Richard Beasman, would remain in Baltimore to spawn a family of descendants that still live in the Baltimore area. After Ann died, Arthur, on July 29, 1778, apparently remarried to Delila Bosely, the widow of John Helms, and daughter of William Bosley and Elizabeth Dimmitt. Arthur and Delilah had one son, Walter Bosley Chenoweth, but nothing is known of him other than his birth. He is however lsited in the bible record along with the other children of Arthur, Jr. Arthur, Jr. died intestate in Baltimore Co., MD in 1803, a year after the death of his father. There are estate proceedings dealing with his lands and children recorded in Baltimore County.
