His father's will, inventoried 18 February 1832, gave him 'the Bishops old place' of about 315 acres:[1]
"I give & bequeath unto my son John Cherry all that plantation or tract of land whereon he now lives containing about 315 acres more or less known by the name of Bishops old place"
In addition, he bought, of the estate, the following enslaved persons:[1]
Negro Boy Jonathan $450, sold to John Cherry for $460
Negro Boy Prince $250, sold to John Cherry for $330. [This Prince may have been on loan to John Cherry Jr from his father and had to be returned to the estate for valuation and then sold.]
He appeared on the 1840 U.S. Federal Population Schedule in Chester, Chester, South Carolina, United States showing:[2]
